Respect Due!

It's the end of the month, Feb. 28, 2007 and Black History month will be over after tomorrow. For 28 days there were tributes of African-Americans posted all over the world, well probably not in some places, but anyway I was very happy to see so many historical figures past and present represented in such a high respectable manner. Unfortunately this only last a month. After today, people will continue with their everyday lives and wont honor African-Americans until this time next year............but I'm hear to say it's Black History everyday!

It amazes me that a lot of big businesses tend to cash in on this month and hopefully gain the support of the black community. I recently took a visit to Navy Pier one Saturday afternoon for lunch, etc. I saw an advertisment for the Black History display provided courtesy of the Sun-Times, so I searched and searched and searched and searched, until I finally I had to use the restroom. I was redirected to the second floor restroom around the corner in the back which is the garden area and.........WOW!!! There is was the Black History display. Reprinted, enlarged covers of the Sun-times with headlines reading: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Slain, followed by a pic of his wife being chased by the media and" Fiery negro" Malcolm X Slain, accompanied by a photo of the civil rights activist being carried out on a stretcher by the boys in blue.

Well, what a way to salute two great historical figures! Check it out: http://www.navypier.com/cal_events/pdf/BlkHistCST/2_22_65_malcomx.pdf
